Hi guys and welcome back! Of course, the first week of January brings all kinds of reflection, motivation, and organization right!? After the New Year to celebrate to celebrate my birthday, I wanted to do a few projects like deconstruct a vintage chair and refresh my bedroom!
I also spent a lot of time looking back on 2018. I am so glad that I was able to dig deep and reflect on the past year this week. It was so helpful…crucial really in setting goals. Reflecting really helps me to move forward into the new year with even more intention than I had the previous year. I absolutely love, love, LOVE this time of year!!!
I was able to sit down with my husband for a few hours this past week and discuss what projects needed to be a priority in the next few months. I have quite a few pages of things we’d like to tackle around here in the organization and project departments. The new year is notorious for bringing out the brand new “us”…am I right!?
Because my birthday happens to fall at the start of the new year, I seem to be extra reflective and ready to tackle it ALL!!!! Okay, maybe not “all”, but a few things at least! Haha!
So I started cleaning up and organizing in our bedroom! The master bedroom can easily be a place that is neglected or forgotten, but in our tiny house…a little of disorganization seems like a huge mess to me! We don’t have a closet, so whatever fits in our one dresser and one shelf is all we keep in the house…the rest is kept in totes in the attic and those are basically the off-season clothing. I am happy to say that things were cleaned and drawers were organized! YAY!!!
I also love sprucing up the bedroom…okay, that’s NOT how I meant it! LOL! I am talking about freshening up the decor you guys! Come on…stay focused here!!! Haha!
I decided to replace the ladder and wreath above the bed with this beautiful sign from Small Wood Home!! I have been a customer of theirs for a while, so when they reached out to me with a coupon code for you all I was SO excited to share !!! They have the most beautiful signs and scrolls around and I just love that they are a family owned, small business of makers, working their tails off to offer you the most beautiful signs around. I am such a fan!!!
Their signs are incredible! So, if you are looking to spruce up your space, I definitely recommend checking out their website HERE and be sure to use DENA25 for 25% off all home goods from now until 1/31!!! YAY!
If there is one time I can convince my sweet husband that I NEED more pillows for the bedroom, it would be on my birthday!!! So you better believe I took full advantage! I have been drooling over Joanna Gaines line at Pier1 Imports, but I cannot and will not pay nearly $100 for one throw pillow (as beautiful as they are…seriously, they are gorgeous)! I shopped around and I was so excited when I found some fairly similar ones for 24.99 and I had a coupon!!!! Such a deal!
This week I also celebrated my birthday! I turned 38 on Monday and lucky for me, my kiddos had a snow day and they helped me around the house all day! Seriously, birthdays are the BEST!!! I am more and more grateful for my birthdays each year.
If I am being honest I’d say that I am in NO way ashamed or upset about my age or growing older. I know that I am not what I once was (like when I was in my 20’s) and I also am so GLAD that I am not who I once was (like when I was in my 20’s)! I know that each year is a blessing and a gift and I definitely won’t spend my time complaining about my age! Years ago I lost 2 cousins that were in their teens, one to cancer and one in an accident. That totally changed my perspective on aging. Since then I have lost more friends, way too young…and I am telling you, I don’t take a single day for granted! Aging is a GIFT!
I also want to share just a bit about the vintage chair that I picked up recently and have been deconstructing! Guys this chair was ugly!!! I mean so ugly! See what I mean?
Despite how terrible it looked, I just LOVED it. I guess I loved the shape of it the most. I could see it’s potential and when I saw that it was $35 and market 50% off I had to bring it home!
I have wanted a deconstructed vintage chair for years and this was just the chair for me to practice on!!! So many vintage chairs are hundreds of dollars and I can’t pay that …especially for something that I may ruin…hopefully not, but hey, it could happen!!! I couldn’t wait to start this project! I worked on it for a few hours here and there and I’d say that the worst of it is behind me now! I learned a lot, like how NOT to pull staples if you don’t want to end up with a had full of blisters! Haha!
I really lucked out on this vintage chair. I love the shape even more now that the back is removed and I was SO lucky to find that the inside already had a burlap lining the interior! I planned on adding burlap to the inside before I started, so that saved me a whole lot of time!
I am probably about 4-ish hours away from finishing this chair, plus I have to sew the new seat cushion still…so maybe 8 hours total. I am not a great sewer, but I think I can manage. The little nail tacks I am using make it slow going too. But this vintage chair is probably going to end up being my favorite piece of furniture I own…so that makes it all worth it! Did I mention, I LOVE trying new things!?!
I have been working on a blog post in much more detail all about the process of this deconstructed chair, so be sure to check back for more info! So far, I am LOVING this project! I have never done anything similar to this so it’s been really fun to just go for it!
I hope you enjoyed this recap of my birthday week and I hope all of you are off to a wonderful start to your new year! If you don’t follow me on Instagram and you want to see more behind the scenes, be sure to check out my feed HERE! I have a lot of fun sharing whatever projects I am up to on my stories! Thanks for following along!
XOXO,
